About Failsafe Solutions

Why does Failsafe exist?

A business performance consultancy built around a methodology that puts the business before the technology, the operating model before the software, and the evidence before the decision.

Why Failsafe exists

The most common reason businesses fail to improve

Many improvement efforts fail because the underlying operational problem has not been clearly identified before recommendations are made. Without that anchor, recommendations arrive in vendor-shaped suggestions; the change takes six months, consumes the leadership team's attention and produces little measurable uplift.

Failsafe Solutions was created for one reason — to give UK SMEs an evidence-based way of understanding how their business actually runs today, and a structured way of deciding what to change first. Not a tool. Not a vendor. Not a subscription. A methodology, applied one engagement at a time, with measured baselines and measured outcomes.

We are deliberately small. We work alone and with carefully chosen collaborators. We turn down engagements that don't fit the methodology. We say no to work that would compromise the principles below. None of that is a marketing line. It is the operating contract of the business.

The methodology

What follows from the purpose

The work follows the Failsafe Method — six stages with Security & Governance by Design and Measurement & ROI running through every stage. The reading order is consistent throughout: business → operations → technology → AI. AI is one of nine disciplines; it is never the headline. Vendor-neutral by design, with a build/buy/keep view on every recommendation.

The methodology is described in full on the Approach page, where the six stages, the two rings, the nine disciplines and the maturity model are explained in detail.

The flagship engagement

The Business Performance Review

The flagship entry point is the Business Performance Review — a fixed-scope engagement that applies the Failsafe Method in the Assess → Prioritise → Select part of the work. It produces the Business Performance Index and the maturity profile, the operational waste analysis, and a prioritised roadmap. It is paid; it has a fixed scope; it produces a definite deliverable.

The full client reference lives on the Guide to the Business Performance Review, and the booking enquiry is one page on the Book a Review page.

Helen Moffatt, founder of Failsafe Solutions

Helen Moffatt founded Failsafe Solutions after more than 20 years helping organisations improve the way they use technology to support their business. Throughout her career, she worked with businesses of different sizes and sectors, seeing first-hand that successful improvement rarely begins with software alone. The biggest gains come from understanding how the business works, where time and effort are being lost, and then choosing the right technology to support better ways of working.

She created the Failsafe Method to provide a structured, evidence-led approach that starts with the business, moves through operations and technology, and considers AI only where it adds genuine value. Her focus is simple: practical recommendations, measurable improvements, and solutions that make sense long after the latest technology trend has passed.

What we don't do

The same posture on every page

  • We do not lead with AI. AI is one of nine disciplines; it appears when the underlying operational case supports it, and not before.
  • We do not promote suppliers. The technology grid on the home page is category-led; suppliers appear only where a sector requires familiarity.
  • We do not promise commercial outcomes we cannot measure. The diagnostic fee does what it says; ROI is measured when quick wins are acted on.
  • We do not hide the cost of change. The methodology is candid about what each engagement does and does not include.
  • We do not use the language of hype. Banned words are not used; the tone across every page is plain English, evidence-led, consultative.
