Business Performance Review

Book a Business Performance Review.

An architect's survey for your business. Before you spend on change, know exactly what's costing you time and money — and what to fix first.

Introductory launch price £500 · fixed scope · no obligation · plain English, no jargon.

What it is

A structured review of how your business runs today

The Business Performance Review applies the Failsafe Method to one engagement at a time. We look at how your business actually runs — interviews, processes walkthroughs, systems review — and produce a written report plus an executive presentation that tells you what is costing you, what to fix first, and what isn't worth fixing now.

Discover

Structured interviews with the people who run your business day to day, and a walkthrough of the work that matters most.

Assess

Map how work really flows. Quantify hours lost, rework, delay and risk. Score the business against the Failsafe Business Performance Index and the maturity profile.

Prioritise

Rank opportunities by impact, complexity and risk. Distinguish quick wins from initiatives that take six months.

Select

Recommend the right solution for each priority. Sometimes the answer is a better process, sometimes an integration, sometimes automation, sometimes nothing new.

What's included

A fixed-scope engagement, set out clearly before you commit

You know exactly what you are buying. What is in, what is not, and where the boundary sits, is published below.

Scope

  • Up to 4 stakeholder interviews (Managing Director/Owner; Operations; Finance or Admin; one operational team member)
  • Up to 5 core business processes (you choose the five in advance)
  • Up to 8 systems reviewed (your existing tools — practice management, accounting, document, communication, and others)
  • One legal entity, one primary site, up to 50 staff

Deliverables

  • Business Performance Index and maturity profile
  • Operational Waste Analysis — quantified in hours and cost
  • Governance Review against the seven Failsafe principles
  • AI Readiness — an honest view of where AI would genuinely help, where it wouldn't, and what must be true first
  • Top 10 Opportunities, ranked by impact and effort
  • Prioritised Roadmap, scoped into quick wins and initiatives
  • Executive Summary
  • Executive Presentation (delivered to your leadership team)
Engagement boundaries (stated as clearly as inclusions). The Business Performance Review does not include detailed technical implementation, penetration testing, a cybersecurity audit, full process mapping of every department, software implementation, staff training, change management, or multi-site enterprise reviews. Those are scoped separately, after the review, if you decide they are needed.

For the comprehensive client reference — a chapter-by-chapter description of the report, what to prepare, frequently asked questions and a downloadable PDF — see the Guide to the Business Performance Review.

Timescales

Typical 4–6 weeks, with two fixed checkpoints

A typical Business Performance Review runs over 4–6 weeks: kickoff in week 0, fieldwork across weeks 1–2, analysis and report drafting across weeks 2–4, executive presentation across weeks 4–6. There are two fixed checkpoints — the discovery call and the mid-engagement review. For the week-by-week breakdown, deliverables in detail and what to prepare, see the Guide to the Business Performance Review.

What happens after you book

Normally within one working day

  • You receive a personal acknowledgement from Helen, with a link to the discovery call calendar.
  • We propose two discovery-call windows in the next week, suited to your diary.
  • On the discovery call, we confirm scope, agree the five processes to look at, and book the kickoff.
  • The engagement begins with a kickoff note setting out the plan and the people involved.

A note on our first reviews

Building the methodology with you

We are inviting a small number of accountancy practices to participate in our first three reviews in return for honest written feedback and permission to use anonymised findings to refine our methodology and, in time, build a benchmark dataset for the sector. Your engagement looks the same as any other — fixed scope, fixed price, fixed deliverables — and your data is governed by our standard seven principles. What changes is that your feedback helps shape the methodology that the next practices will benefit from.

If you would like to take part in this first cohort, mention it in the booking enquiry below.

Is this the right fit?

A short honesty check before you send

We recommend reading these two lists in order. If the first list reflects your situation and the second doesn't, the BPR is one of the better next steps you can take. If the second list sounds more like you, we'd rather tell you now than after a booking.

Who this is for

  • An SME of approximately 50 staff with a clearly defined review scope — small enough that the fixed Launch engagement fits cleanly, large enough that operational improvements move the needle. Multiple internal teams are not an automatic exclusion; the review can cover several teams within the five-process limit.
  • An owner or senior leader who believes valuable time, capacity or money is being lost but wants evidence before deciding what to change.
  • A team willing to be interviewed honestly for an hour each. The methodology depends on real answers; it does not work behind a corporate wall.
  • Open to understanding the root cause before choosing the solution. The recommendation may be a better process, an integration, automation, AI, or nothing — and the engagement works because we diagnose before prescribing.

This review may not be right if…

  • You already know what software you want and just need it implemented. The BPR tells you what to buy; the buying is a separate engagement with a different discipline.
  • You need a cybersecurity audit or penetration test. Both are scoped standalone, not part of the BPR, and require different specialists.
  • You need a full multi-site, multi-entity enterprise review (more than 50 staff, several sites, several legal entities). That is a longer Business Performance Review Plus scope, not Launch.
  • You are primarily looking for free implementation advice or software recommendations.
